Sports hub construction works underway

Construction of the new floodlit 3G pitch and clubhouse at King George V Community Sports Hub is now underway.

The pitch and ancillary works are being undertaken by The Malcolm Group, Charles Lawrence Surfaces and CC Grass with Wernick providing the new clubhouse building.

The £1.8 million sports hub project was unveiled in March 2019 with Chester FC Community Trust and Cheshire West and Chester Council working in partnership to progress the scheme, which has been made possible thanks to a £1m grant from the Premier League, The FA and Football Foundation and further funding from Duke of Westminster’s Westminster Foundation, the Council, Avenue Services and Ursula Keyes Trust.

“This is a landmark moment and the result of a lot of hard work from everyone involved in the project,” said Jim Green, CEO of the Community Trust.

“The new 3G pitch was central to our vision and will provide much needed facilities for local clubs, leagues and players, while enabling the Community Trust to deliver new and enhanced activities for people of all ages.

“We are very grateful to all of our partners for their support and for sharing our passion for this project and the difference it will make to our community.”

It is hoped the 3G pitch and clubhouse will be completed in early 2022 and the second phase will see the existing grass pitches at King George V Playing Fields benefit from a programme of improvements and refurbishment of the existing pavilion.

The Community Trust is continuing to raise funds for phase two and donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/campaign/kgvsportshub.
