Sports hub project entering final stages

Chester’s new community sports hub is entering the final stages of construction as the £1.8 million scheme nears completion.

Local councillors for Blacon, Carol Gahan, Trish Richards and Shiela Little, and Chester FC Community Trust CEO Jim Green visited the King George V Community Sports Hub site recently and were delighted to see the progress that has been made.

It is hoped work will be completed in late January 2022 with the new facility opening to the public soon after. Over the next two months, contractors will be installing the artificial grass, completing the car park and access improvements and organising service connections, as well as finishing work on the new clubhouse.

The sports hub will become home to the Community Trust, which is a registered charity, as well as providing training and match facilities for a number of partner grassroots clubs and leagues.

The Community Trust is continuing to raise funds for phase two, which will see the existing grass pitches and pavllion at King George V Playing Fields improved, and donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/campaign/kgvsportshub.

If you would like to know more about the scheme, have any questions or would like to be involved in the project, please contact Community Trust CEO Jim Green on 01244 371376 or email jim.green@chesterfc.com.
